The Story Behind the Lens
Raised by a single mother, Arsen’s family immigrated from Manila, Philippines to Orange County, California when he was eight. The second youngest of seven siblings, he grew up in a loving but sheltered environment where the path forward was clear — medicine, stability, certainty. There wasn’t much room for creativity.
It wasn’t until his teenage years that everything quietly shifted. Many lunch breaks and spare moments were spent in the photography section of a Rizzoli bookstore, poring over images without fully understanding why. He didn’t know it then, but he was laying the foundation for everything that would come.
Adulthood brought San Francisco, then Los Angeles, then New York City. Each city left its mark — shaping his eye, expanding his world, adding layers to his perspective. Through career changes, life pivots, and the kind of circuitous journey that doesn’t make sense until you look back at it, his devotion to photography never wavered.
When he finally turned that decades-long passion into a career, he understood that the long road wasn’t a detour. It was the point. Every experience colored his artistic vision and placed his heart exactly where it belongs — in the space where light and shadow converge.
Today Arsen calls Brooklyn home, where every corner holds a new source of inspiration. Through his lens, he strives to give a voice to the moments he captures — whether a whisper or a roar, one frame at a time.
